Connecticut River Greenway State Park

May 25, 2020 Cloudy

This state park includes 12 miles of protected shoreline along the Connecticut River, stretching from Northfield down to Chicopee, with a number of access points for boating and hiking.

We stopped at the Elwell Recreation Area in Northampton as part of a bike ride on the rail trail.

There are some short trails that let you get a closer look at the river. The bike trail bridge is shown in the background.

On the right side in both of these pictures is a small island in the middle of the river (Elwell State Park) that also has some trails.

We also explored other parts of the greenway to the north, as seen in this picture from the top of Mt. Sugarloaf Reservation.

  • There were no trails here, but the green forest buffer would be best enjoyed from the river.
  • We weren’t able to find any trails. The river was nice and wide, but probably best enjoyed by boating.
  • There was nothing here except a buggy forest.
  • Basically just the river, but the river was nice.
  • So there was no trail and it went the besides the river a bit but there still was no trail.
